Mimblewimble is a concept in cryptocurrencies which leverages cryptography to allow past transaction data to be removed from blockchain with no compromise on security. This reduces the amount of data that full nodes need to store on chain. In addition to reducing size of the blockchain, mimblewimble also provides anonymity and fungibility for the transactions, as there are no amounts or addresses visible on chain.

First cryptocurrencies implementing mimblewimble were Grin and Beam. In 2023 mimblewimble was merged into Litecoin as an extension (MWEB).
